What is ROUNDUP function in Excel?

ROUNDUP function is one of the Math and Trig functions in Microsoft Excel that rounds a number up, away from 0 (zero).

Syntax of ROUNDUP function

ROUNDUP(number, num_digits)

The ROUNDUP function syntax has the following arguments:

  • Number: Any real number that you want rounded up.
  • Num_digits: The number of digits to which you want to round number.

ROUNDUP formula explanation

  • ROUNDUP behaves like ROUND, except that it always rounds a number up.
  • If num_digits is greater than 0 (zero), then number is rounded up to the specified number of decimal places.
  • If num_digits is 0, then number is rounded up to the nearest integer.
  • If num_digits is less than 0, then number is rounded up to the left of the decimal point.

Example of ROUNDUP function

Steps to follow:

1. Open a new Excel worksheet.

2. Copy data in the following table below and paste it in cell A1

Note: For formulas to show results, select them, press F2 key on your keyboard and then press Enter.

You can adjust the column widths to see all the data, if need be.

=ROUNDUP(31415.92654, -2) Rounds 31415.92654 up to 2 decimal places to the left of the decimal point. 31500
